OSDN Released New REST API and Declares Having Become a Global New Forge

― Implementation of New API, Completion of English Translation of the System, Fulfilling the Globalization of Mirror System, and Offering Reliability and Stability to the Global OSS Community --

TOKYO, Feb. 17, 2016 ― OSDN Corporation ("OSDN Corp" or the "Company"), a leading provider of open source software development and distribution who also operates community media, today announced that it released a new REST API in a public beta phase, which enables smooth management of file releases, on OSDN (https://osdn.jp/ , formerly known as SourceForge.JP) which is one of the Asia’s largest websites for open source software development and distribution. Furthermore, having fulfilled the globalization of OSDN's file mirror system and having been complete with English translation as a part of the effort to internationalize all provided features, OSDN declares that it has transformed into a new Forge ready to take on globally active open source projects.

The newly released REST API supports OAuth 2.0 for authentication, which is broadly used by general web services, and enables managing a project registered on OSDN through the use of various applications. Currently, there are several available APIs such as editing file releases, adding files, and news posting, and in addition software can be released with a script written from a system of an available development environment. Going forward, we plan to sequentially implement API that manipulates the other features of a project and PersonalForge, and API that offers statistical information.

Moreover, thanks to the cooperation of open source support organizations in the United States, Germany, Czech, Poland, Brazil, Australia, and Japan, OSDN now has achieved a high-speed mirror network that geographically stretches around the globe which makes offering of far better file download experience possible. Further, OSDN has changed the language policy, which used to give priority to Japanese language, and now propels to completely internationalize all features provided on OSDN. And as a part of the effort, all features and documents are now complete with English translation. Due to these changes, even in the eyes of globally active open source projects, a new value in using OSDN was generated, and our Forge environment of classic style continues to ensure reliability and safety.

"Throughout the past 15 years including the previous brand era, we managed to steadily carry on with our honest operation and improvements, and we are proud of having been a part of the driving force that pushed open source culture forward in Japan. And we are certain that now the time has come for us to make the results of all the efforts available to the global community." said Shuji Sado, President and CEO of OSDN Corp. "We are not a unicorn. However, we can provide developers stability and reliability. We are determined to make OSDN stay on track to continue evolving just like how we’ve been doing for the past 15 years nonstop."
