The SpamBouncer is a set of procmail instructions that search the headers and text of your incoming email to see if it meets one or more of a list of conditions for probable spam. It will then either tag the suspected spam and return it to your main incoming mailbox, tag the suspected spam, delete spam from known spam sources, and file suspected spam in a separate folder, send a simulated MAILER-DAEMON daemon "bounce", complain to the "upstream providers" of known spammers or spam sites/domains, etc.

This release has the usual housekeeping (virus, spam haven, spam source, and pattern matching filters) update. It supports the new blocklist SURBL (enable with SURBLCHECK=yes) triggered by in-body spammers' URLs. Outdated (long time no hear) spammer blocking code is disabled by default for CPU conservation (it can be enabled via the configuration).

A generic scoring system has been added for easier block/spam thresholds configuration. There are more whitelisting, blacklisting and anti-virus features. CPU usage optimizations have been added (very important for site installations). MH format target folders support has been added. More deobfuscation techniques in the code allow for more spam pattern detection. Many bugfixes and housekeeping updates have been made (spam haven domains/small fry lists).

In this version, scoring now weighs "hits" on different
criteria, and adds those weights together to determine
whether to treat email as definitely spam, as suspicious,
or as non-spam. The OsiruSoft blacklists, including
SPEWS, are down and have been disabled. The NJABL
dial-up and open proxies blocklists have been enabled by
default. Scanning for scripts and embedded IFRAME tags
can now be disabled. The SoBig filter no longer catches
email that was scanned by a legitimate virus scanner.
The Small Fry and Haven Domains lists have also been
updated.
