GNU TeXmacs is a free wysiwyw (what you see is what you want) editing platform with special features for scientists. The software aims to provide a unified and user friendly framework for editing structured documents with different types of content: text, mathematics, graphics, interactive content. TeXmacs can also be used as an interface to many external systems for computer algebra, numerical analysis, and statistics. New presentation styles can be written by the user and new features can be added to the editor using Scheme.

Vim Outliner is a Vim plugin that make it behave as a full-
featured outliner of the likes of MaxThink, Grandview,
ThinkTank, and more. It has its own add-ons for checkboxes
and hoisting and is compatible with Vim spell-checkers like
vimspell and engspeak. There are several scripts available
from other to convert text outlines to HTML pages, Docbook
files, and Open Office Impress files.
KOffice is an integrated office suite based on the KDE libraries. KOffice currently includes KWord, KSpread, KPresenter, KChart, Karbon14, Krita, Kexi, KFormula, Kugar, and Kivio. There are no special mail and news clients included in KOffice, because there are KMail and KNode available for KDE anyway. All KOffice components work together, and you can embed every KOffice component into any other KOffice component. This is realized using the KParts object model.
OOoPy is a Python library for modifying
OpenOffice.org documents. It provides a set of
transformations on the OOo XML format using the
ElementTree XML Library. Transformations included
are a mail merge application and the concatenation
of documents with formatting
intact. The framework supports easy creation of
new transformations.

htmlArea is a free WYSIWYG editor replacement for common textarea fields in HTML forms. Users can change the font size/color, make it bold/italicized/underlined, add bullets and numbering, insert images and links, and more. It works with any server-side software that accepts forms, including PHP, ASP, Perl, etc., and enables users to format their content as easily as if they were using a word processor. No HTML knowledge is required. Once the form is submitted, the raw HTML is passed along through your CGI script for use in your program.

libwpd is a library designed to help process WordPerfect documents. It exposes a simple callback-based API (similar to SAX), allowing it to be easily plugged into any C or C++ application.
It is used by recent versions of AbiWord and OpenOffice.org to provide WordPerfect file import.
Z-Doc is an Aportis(TM) DOC compatible reader/writer with support for
encryption, compression, and serial port input/output. It is built mainly for
programmers who wish to access the DOC format files from a Palm Pilot or from
standalone Unix C code. It has modular read/write functions which can be picked
up and dropped into other GPLed projects.
