Dents is a from-scratch implementation of the server side of the DNS protocol, sharing no code with any other project. Among its several features are compatibility with named, a modular driver system and an extensible control facility which allows the administrator to control the running server.

This is by far the most stable release to date, and has many new
features including major revisions to the red-black tree code,
implementation of the modular driver architecture, addition of
several new modular drivers and a CORBA-based control facility.
We also have documented (preliminarily) the driver interface, so
people can start writing MySQL and PostgreSQL drivers for Dents.
