Norton Automatic Updater searches for new definition files at
Symantec's Web site, downloads them, and creates Microsoft Windows
batch files to automate the actualization process on Windows clients.
Information regarding Project Releases and Project Resources. Note that the information here is a quote from Freecode.com page, and the downloads themselves may not be hosted on OSDN.
The configuration file has been changed to use the AppConfig module. New parameters have been added to the nau.conf file. This release can use the %WINDIR% variable in the netlogon.bat script. It can send email using an SMTP server (with authentication). Global variables have been removed. Temporary files are now created using the File::Temp module (to avoid race conditions). This release has command line options, including a help message when using the "-h" option.
A function was added to retrieve the Symantec DAT
file's last modification date instead of parsing
it from the HTML. This allows the program to check
for updates that are released more then once a
day. The code was rewritten to remove some global
variables. The NAU client is not necessary
anymore, since the Intelligent File Updater can be
used with the "\q" option, which causes the update
to happen without requiring user interaction with
a dialog box. The netlogon.bat script was updated
as well.
